Answer TWO of the questions below.
The answers must be 6 -8 sentences for EACH question!
1. How does the Creightons' location in southern Illinois give the characters a unique perspective on the war?
2. Does Hunt's writing in dialect add or distract from the story? Why or why not?
3. Do you think Bill ever makes it home?
4. Guy Wortman is definitely a bad guy. But are his opinions on Bill and the Creightons valid? Why or why not?
5. Put yourself in Jethro's shoes. What would be the hardest part about the majority of your family going off to war? Do you think you'd handle it as well as he does?
3. Do you think Bill ever makes it home?
I don't think so because many people hate Bill. A lot of people thought that Bill had killed their siblings and so he joined the Confederate Army which is making the hate higher of people disliking him. Bill was also captured and so if he ever escapes it would be pretty hard for him to come back. Bill was hated very much and so if he ever came back no one would like it and they would either not care or want him to go back from where he came from. There is also a very low chance of Bill surviving after he was captured. I would think that if he…
2. Irene Hunt's dialect added on to the story. She made the characters speak in special ways. She would often misspell words on purpose to make them sound like they're spoken in a different accent. That made it easier for readers to comprehend the personality traits of characters. For example, in all of John's letters, Irene Hunt would insert in many misspelled words.
5. If half of my family would be gone to war, I would have been depressed. I would feel very lonely because most of my family would have been playful with me, being the youngest. Noticing that Jethro even feels sadness for the ones he less liked, it would make me even more sad. I feel like…
3. No, many people hate him and people would be upset. He was accused of killing people's siblings. Now he joined the Confederate Army so that won't help. He was captured so if he does survive somehow, he might not come back.
5. I don't think I would be able to handle it that well. Some of his siblings already died and were in the war, I don't think I could handle that while. Since more family members might die then I don't think anyone would be able to handle it. Also just knowing people you love are dieing in a war is just bad by itself.
3. Does Bill come back?
No because many people hate Bill and if he returns, no one will be happy. People thought Bill killed their siblings, making him hated. He joined the Confederate Army which increases the hate toward him. And he was captured so that lowers the chances of him returning alive. It would be almost impossible to return back so he won't make it back.
5. Put yourself in Jethro's shoes. What would be the hardest part about the majority of your family going off to war?
Do you think you'd handle it as well as he does? Life would be hard and rough because a war is happening and Jethro's siblings are in the war. I might…
3.Do you think Bill ever makes it home?
Absolutely not because there are a LOT of reasons why. Bill had gathered a lot of hate towards himself which means if he does come back, things won’t be pretty. If someone thought I killed my sibling, chances are they will hate me forever. He also joined the Confederate Army instead of the Union so that is more hate for him. Then he was captured so that is less survival chance and overall chance he is coming back. The chances are so slim it will take a miracle for him to go back home. I think he won’t come back.
5.Put yourself in Jethro's shoes. What would be the hardest part about…
